Due to COVID-19, not all of ASK's programs are operating as they would normally. If you have any questions about the status of any of our programs, please contact Denice Grawe, ASK's Program Manager, for up-to-date information.
Did you know that 1-2 children are diagnosed with cancer
every week here in Central Virginia?
The numbers add up way too quickly. That's where ASK steps in to help. Our Patient Programs are based in the ASK Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU. This means that our staff is working side-by-side with the medical staff to make sure our ASK kids and their families receive the support they need from the moment they hear those words
"Your child has cancer."
"Your child has cancer."
Did you know two-thirds of all childhood cancer survivors will develop at least one late effect from the disease or their treatment?
That's why ASK continues to provide support to survivors. We know that life after cancer rarely returns to the same "normal." We provide educational support to make sure that they can return to school and move on to the next grade level with their peers. We provide emotional support to help survivors cope with life after cancer. Through our Young Adult Cancer Survivors group, we are helping our survivors transition to adulthood. Our goal is to help all of our survivors thrive in the lives they have fought so hard to keep.
Did you know that half of all families with a child in treatment
will experience severe financial hardship?
Through ASK's Family Crisis Fund, we are making sure that families stay together and financially afloat during their child's treatment.
We offer short-term assistance with mortgage payments, utility bills and funeral expenses. Through our "Welcome Home"
partnership program with the Home Building Association of Richmond, we are helping families make their homes safe and
accessible for their children.
